The Ink Cap Keeper
A little folklore from the forest floor.
Perched upon the broad cap of an ink cap mushroom, a rather unconventional fairy keeps watch over her woodland domain. With ragged wings and a somewhat wild appearance, she seems far removed from the delicate creatures of traditional fairy tales.
The ink cap, with its distinctive shape and curious habit of dissolving into an inky liquid as it matures, is a fascinating subject in its own right. Here, it becomes the unlikely throne of a woodland guardian.
Inspired by folklore, fungi and the stranger inhabitants of the natural world, this illustration is for those who like their fairy tales a little less predictable.
